Swedish Massage Therapy

What is Swedish massage treatment?

It is a method created to assist the muscles in the body to unwind by applying pressure and then rubbing it in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.

Unlike other approaches of massage therapy, this was first established in the 18th century. It is likewise called the "classic massage" due to the fact that it represents the Western way of unwinding those muscles.

What does it do?

The primary function of the Swedish massage then and now is still the very same. This is to increase the circulation of oxygen in the blood so that toxic substances are released from the muscles. These toxic substances consist of lactic and uric acid, along with metabolic waste products.

When this happens, circulation is increased without increasing the heart load. The ligaments and tendons are both extended keeping them flexible. This also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves at the same time. As a result, tension is reduced.

There are numerous methods in the Swedish massage. Some examples of these are:

  • Friction
  • Effleurage
  • Kneading
  • Tapping
  • Long strokes
  • Vibrations
  • Shaking motions

Your therapist may utilize the fingertips, hands or palm to achieve the desired results.

What to expect during your session.

During the session, your therapist will leave the room while you undress and lie down on the massage table, under the sheet and blanket. You may undress down to your comfort level. Most clients undress completely, or down to their undergarments. The only part of your body that will be uncovered is the area that your therapist is working on at the time. If ever you want to reduce or increase the pressure, just say so and your therapist will adjust accordingly. We want to hear this during the session, rather than afterward.

Your massage room will have soft relaxing music playing in the background. All of our massage rooms at Simply Massage have individualized Spotify playlists, so please let us know if you have a music style preference, and we'll be happy to play that during your massage.

Last but not least, some people sleep throughout Swedish massage therapy. Once again, that is perfectly fine. You're definitely not the first client that fell asleep on the massage table. :-)

Swedish massage therapy is considered to be the structure of other types of Western massages. This is due to the fact that the concepts behind it are the same as when you attempt sports massage, seated chair massage, hot stone treatment, deep tissue massage or aromatherapy.

When the session is over, you'll feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Drink plenty of water after your session to help in the removal of the toxins that your massage therapist flushed out of your muscles.

FAQ'S

How much does it cost?

A 60 minute massage is $80 and a 90 minute massage is $120.  After your first visit, you can choose to join our no-contract monthly membership, buy a massage package, or visit occasionally at the non-member rate. You can find all of our rates and prices here.

What if the pressure is too deep?

Please tell your therapist immediately if the pressure is too deep (or too light). We're great massage therapists, but we haven't quite gotten the mind-reading thing down yet. You won't hurt our feelings to ask us to adjust the pressure to your liking (unless you tell us afterward, then we may cry a little.)

How often should I get a Swedish massage?

We recommend getting massage treatments at least once per month to see the greatest benefit. Massage is cumulative, so the more regularly you visit, the better you'll feel overall.
